Dec 28: Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson, fullback Vonta Leach and running back Arian Foster are
named to the 2010 AFC Pro Bowl roster. Johnson and Leach are selected
as starters. Foster, the NFL’s leading rusher, makes it as a reserve.
Johnson would later pull out due to an ankle injury.
Dec 1: Cornerback Glover Quin is named
the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after picking off a
franchise-record three passes while playing with a broken right hand in
Week 12. It keyed a 20-0 shutout victory over Tennessee.
Oct 20: quarterback Matt Schaub earns
AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Texans to a
35-31 come-from-behind win against Kansas City. Schaub completes
25-of-33 passes for 305 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a
season-best 123.9 passer rating, and leads the Texans on four
consecutive touchdown drives against Kansas City to help overcome a
14-point deficit. He finds Andre Johnson in the back of the end zone
from 11 yards out with 28 seconds remaining in the contest to cap the
nine-play, 80-yard game-winning drive. It marks the seventh game-winning
drive of Schaub’s career and second this season.
Sept 30: Running back Arian Foster is named the AFC
Offensive Player of the Month for September. Foster sets several
single-game team rushing records with a historic opening day performance
and leads the NFL with 406 yards rushing, 502 total yards and 27 first
downs gained in three games played this season.
Sept 22: Wide receiver Andre Johnson earns the AFC
Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2 after catching 12 passes for 158
yards and a touchdown to help his team to the first overtime win in
franchise history at Washington.
Sept 15: Texans RB Arian Foster is named AFC
Offensive Player of the Week after gaining a franchise-record 231
rushing yards in the Texans' 34-24 Week 1 win over the Indianapolis
Colts.
May 12: Texans LB Brian Cushing retains
the Associated Press 2009 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award after
an unprecedented re-vote. The AP called for a re-vote in light of
Cushing being suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season.
April 22: The Texans select University of Alabama
cornerback Kareem Jackson with the 20th overall pick in the first round
of the 2010 NFL Draft. Jackson, an underclassman, started 40 of 41 games
in his Alabama career and helped lead the Crimson Tide to a national
championship in 2009.
March 31: The Texans re-sign LB DeMeco Ryans, a
restricted free agent and the team's defensive captain. Ryans, 25, went
to two Pro Bowls in his first four seasons in the NFL.
March 8: The Texans re-sign WR Kevin Walter and P Matt Turk, a pair of unrestricted free agents.
Feb. 10: The Texans sign head coach Gary Kubiak to a contract extension through the 2012 season.
Feb. 8: The Texans hire Cedric Smith as strength and conditioning coach and promote Perry Carter to assistant defensive backs coach.
Feb. 5: For the second consecutive year and third
time overall, Texans WR Andre Johnson is honored as the NFL Alumni Wide
Receiver of the Year. Johnson led the NFL with 1,569 receiving yards,
becoming the second player ever to lead the league in receiving yards in
consecutive seasons and the second receiver ever to post consecutive
1,500-yard seasons.
Jan. 31: Texans QB Matt Schaub wins 2010 Pro Bowl
MVP honors after completing 13-of-17 passes for 189 yards and two
touchdowns at Sun Life Stadium in South Florida. Schaub's first scoring
pass, a 33-yarder to Texans WR Andre Johnson, is the first touchdown for
Johnson in four trips to the Pro Bowl.
Jan. 27: The Texans hire Greg Knapp as quarterbacks coach.
Jan. 20: Texans QB Matt Schaub is added to the AFC
Pro Bowl roster, replacing injured New England Patriots QB Tom Brady.
It's the first-career Pro Bowl for Schaub, who led the NFL with 4,770
passing yards in 2009. He becomes the Texans' fifth Pro Bowler, a new
team record.
Jan. 14: Texans WR Andre Johnson receives first-team All-Pro honors from the Associated Press for the second consecutive season.
Jan. 13: The Texans name former Denver Broncos
assistant Rick Dennison to the position of offensive coordinator.
Dennison replaces Kyle Shanahan, who left to become the offensive
coordinator of the Washington Redskins.
Jan. 5: Texans LB Brian Cushing is named the
Associated Press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Cushing received 39
of 50 votes from a nationwide panel of NFL writers and analysts to win
the award. He joined DeMeco Ryans as the second Texans linebacker to win
the award in four seasons.
Jan. 3: The Texans overcome a 14-point
fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the New England Patriots 34-27 at
Reliant Stadium and finish the 2009 season 9-7, the first winning season
in franchise history. Houston winds up missing the playoffs by one
spot.
